Toyota vehicles with faulty roof airbags recalled

An estimated 320,000 Toyota vehicles of various models are being recalled by the manufacturer due to an airbag problem that can cause harm to its occupants during operation, an article of CBS News reported on February 2.

According to the Japanese automaker, the airbags installed in the roof of the affected Toyota vehicles may unexpectedly deploy even when the car has not been involved in a collision. The problem, according to Toyota, happened as a result of faulty programming in the airbag computers.

The recall affects previous models of the Sequoia, Tundra, Land Cruiser, 4-Runner, Lexus LX, and GX 470. Drivers and front seat passengers are at a high risk of sustaining injuries while the problem remains uncorrected. Consumers who are affected by the recall will be notified by Toyota for a free computer replacement of their vehicles.
