1.5M trucks with airbag issues recalled by Chrysler

More than 1.5 million units of various pickup truck models in North America are being recalled by Fiat Chrysler due to airbag problems that can cause harm to occupants, ABC News stated on September 10.

Reports said the drivers’ side airbags of 1.35 million pickup truck models made between 2012 and 2014 may unintentionally deploy. Investigations revealed that the problem may occur if the cables inside the steering wheel assembly are damaged. The automaker stated that they are aware of two people getting hurt from unexpected airbag deployment. On the other hand, an estimated 188,000 pickups are equipped with side airbags in the rear portion of the vehicles that fail to meet federal regulations in protecting occupants in rollover accidents. There were no injuries reported in the second problem. Owners of the recalled pickups will be notified for dealers to repair their vehicles.
