“Spirit in the Sky” singer critically injured in deadly SF mishap

Singer Norman Greenbaum sustained serious injuries after getting involved in an accident in the San Francisco area where a motorcycle driver was killed, an article on NBC News stated March 30.

At the time of reporting, the 72-year-old musician was in critical condition after the vehicle he was riding in crashed into a motorcycle on Saturday, March 28. Authorities identified the motorcycle operator who died in the crash as Ihab Usama Halaweh. Halaweh’s passenger identified as Nhmia Mekonnen Kahsay was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital together with Greenbaum. The crash reportedly occurred because the driver in Greenbaum’s car, Bonita Kay Perea, did not see the oncoming motorcycle as she made a turn. A hospital staff member confirmed that the singer was still in the hospital, though could not further comment on his condition.
