NHTSA reprimands Chrysler over Jeep recall problems

Chrysler was recently ordered by the federal vehicle safety agency to immediately address the recall of millions of Jeeps that may catch fire in certain accidents, an article on ABC News reported November 20.

In a November 19 letter sent to Chrysler, the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA) stated that only 3 percent of the 1.5 million previous models of Jeep vehicles have been repaired. To prevent vulnerable fuel tanks from exploding in rear-end collisions, Chrysler is installing a trailer hitch in affected vehicles. However, complaints  have reached the NHTSA of recalled Jeep vehicles not getting repaired due to a shortage of the hitches. Due to the severity of the defect, Chrysler was ordered to make a more direct effort to inform Jeep owners and correct the availability problem. Chrysler said that they are working to address these concerns.
