Subaru recalling vehicles in the U.S. with faulty airbags

Japanese car maker Subaru recalled at least 8,557 vehicles in the U.S. equipped with defective airbags made by Takata, the Chicago Tribune reported on July 8.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) requested Subaru recall their vehicles in the U.S. in areas that experience significant humidity. Subaru is the eighth car maker that issued a recall related to the same Takata airbag issue. In their recall, Subaru identified that the affected vehicle models were manufactured from 2003 to 2004. The automaker claimed that they were unaware of accidents or injuries before the recall was issued. NHTSA estimated that more than 1 million vehicles have been affected by the Takata airbag recall.
