6.39 million Toyota vehicles worldwide affected by 5 recalls

On April 9, Toyota issued five recalls that affect a total of 6.39 million older model vehicles worldwide, with more than one million in the U.S., the Washington Post reported.

The bulk of the recall affects 3.5 million vehicles with poor spiral cables that can be broken and cause the airbags to malfunction. Toyota will also address seat rail springs and steering column brackets that can either increase the risk of injuries or accidents. The two other recalls affect vehicles in Asia that may either have problems in the motors of the windshield wipers or starters.

No one was reportedly injured before Toyota issued the recalls.
