Jeep and Dodge SUVs under investigation for ceiling fires

The Dodge Durango was added to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) investigation over vehicular ceiling fires.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee was initially the focus of the investigation. The NHTSA decided to add the Durango to the investigation because its ceilings are built of the same materials as the Grand Cherokee.

Grand Cherokee owners have reported overheating, fires, and injuries due to the defective ceilings. The investigation, affecting over 593,000 cars, began in August of 2013. In addition to the NHTSA, Chrysler has professionals investigating both SUVs.
