GM to recall 293,000 compact sedans with brake issue

Automaker giant General Motors will recall 293,000 compact sedans affected by a brake problem, according to an article published in The Los Angeles Times.

The recall affects 2011-2012 Chevrolet Cruze models with a modified engine-transmission. The defect can cause an occasional brake-assist loss, resulting in drivers experiencing difficulty in stopping the car. Alleged low-speed accidents related to the brake problem have been reported but no injuries have yet been reported. Dealers are expected to address the problem by changing a microswitch found in the power brake vacuum pipe assembly.

The automaker issued the recall as a part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s effort to make sure defective vehicles actually get fixed.

Defective vehicles may cause devastating injuries to their occupants if an accident occurs. Fortunately, victims of such accidents can often seek justice and financial compensation for their losses from the manufacturers responsible for the accident.
