Wrong-way driver injures Milwaukee police officer

A Milwaukee police officer was injured in a wrong-way driving collision last Wednesday when he was hit by a motorist driving west in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 94.

Both drivers were trapped in their cars as a result of the collision.  Emergency personnel freed the police officer and the other driver, and both were taken to a hospital in critical condition.

The accident report stated that the police officer was on his way home after his shift ended, and the other driver was intoxicated.

The motorist at fault for the incident was cited for multiple driving infractions, including  OWI, wrong-way driving, reckless driving, and driving without proper head lamps. Interstate 94 was shut down for hours after the collision occurred.
