Car accident on Route 45 leads to police chief’s arrest

The 46-year-old police chief of Grayslake, Wisconsin is scheduled to appear in court on May 23 on drunk driving charges stemming from a car accident that took place last week on Route 45.

The officer was driving his vehicle on the highway, with his wife as a passenger, when he attempted to make a left-hand turn and struck a vehicle head-on. When police and emergency personnel arrived, the Grayslake Police Chief was standing outside of his car, and appeared to be swaying. He denied to participate in a sobriety test, and was taken into custody.

No injuries were reported in the collision, and witnesses told police that they noticed the police chief was driving erratically moments before the collision. When he was arrested, police found a loaded weapon on the man’s belt. He has been charged with driving under the influence, and being in possession of a loaded firearm while intoxicated.
