Man’s 7th OWI arrest sparks concern for tougher laws

The arrest of a 54-year-old man for his 7th OWI has officials concerned that law enforcement does not have enough power to help curb the drinking and driving issue.

The arrest occurred when the man was pulled over for swerving into another lane of traffic and almost striking a police car. The man’s blood alcohol content level was at .23 when he was arrested, which is nearly four times the legal drinking limit.

Officials are trying to make the laws tougher for first time offenders because that is the majority of charges and it may prevent offenders from repeating their actions.
