Teen arrested after accident involving a police officer

According to officials, a 17-year-old teen was arrested after allegedly striking a Milwaukee police officer with a stolen vehicle.

The police officer and his partner were on bicycle patrol when they saw the vehicle and noticed that the driver was pressing the horn over and over. When the officers tried to talk to the teen, he drove off, struck one of the officers and dragged him several feet.

The other officer opened fire on the driver, but no one was hit. The 32-year-old officer was transported to the hospital where he was treated and released. The teenager was wanted by authorities after escaping from a juvenile detention facility. He later admitted to police that he was involved in the accident.

Wisconsin seat belt rate lower than national average

Seat belts are effective at preventing 50 percent of deaths when people are involved in motor vehicle accidents. According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Wisconsin seat belt use rate is lower than the national average.

Wisconsin’s seat belt rate is 73.8 percent and the national average is 84 percent. Wisconsin is also at the bottom of the list in seat belt fines, with a fine of only $10.

In June of 2009, Wisconsin passed a law that stated that police officials could pull a driver over if they see that they are driving without a seat belt on. The state of Michigan is the highest in seat belt use with a 98 percent usage rate.

Woman killed in Dodge County crash

A two-vehicle crash on Highway 33 left one person dead on June 10.

According to authorities, the woman was driving a Ford Ranger and traveling in the westbound lane, but turned into the eastbound lane suddenly and struck another vehicle.

The impact between the two vehicles caused the Ford Ranger to hit a driveway embankment and go airborne. The vehicle then landed in a ditch and the driver was ejected from the car. The accident is still currently being investigated by officials.

One injured in collision of car with building

Police are investigating an accident involving a car’s collision with a building, which left one man in critical condition.

A 54-year-old man was driving eastbound when his car left the road, ran over the sidewalk, and into the brick wall of an Edward Jones building. The car continued into the building and struck an interior wall.

The car then caught fire, but it was extinguished quickly by fire personnel. The man was trapped in the car and had to extricated by emergency crews. He was then transported to the hospital and is currently listed in critical, but stable condition. The cause of the accident is still being investigated.

Two teens injured, two killed in car accident

Two teenagers were killed and two  more injured in a Wisconsin car accident in the rural area of Fulton County.

Officials say that the driver was heading westbound when she lost control of the vehicle she was driving.  The car ran off the road and struck a utility pole, flew into the air and rolled multiple times before coming to a stop. A 15-year-old female from Avon and a 15-year-old female from Racine were pronounced dead at the scene. The two other teens, ages 14 and 16, were taken to a local hospital.

Father killed in accident, infant injured

A car accident in Southwest Wisconsin killed one man and injured his 10-month-old child.

The 23-year-old father was heading south on Highway 80 with his 10-month-old child in the backseat. The man then crossed the center line and struck a Ford truck and trailer. The father was ejected from his car even though he was wearing his seat belt.

Someone who was passing by got the child out of the car and rushed him to the hospital. The driver of the Ford truck was also taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Officials say that the accident remains under investigation. The Wisconsin car accident was a shock to drivers and locals in the area.

Car Crash Leaves 4 Year Old Boy on Life Support

A collision between a car and a minivan left a 4 year old boy on life support in Mount Pleasant.

Officials are saying that the driver of the van ran a red light and was charged with several offenses including driving without a license and causing great bodily harm. Police are still investigating the details of the accident. According to family members, the accident caused the 4 year old boy to lose almost two-thirds of his brain functioning. After the van crashed into the car, it took rescue workers nearly 20 minutes to resuscitate the young child.

State Trooper Injured in Accident

A Wisconsin State Trooper was responding to a domestic dispute call when he was involved in a one-car accident in the Township of Spencer.

The trooper was driving on County Highway F when he lost control of his car on a curve. The car ran off the road, hit a tree, and flipped over before coming to a stop. The trooper was then transported to the hospital with what were reported as non-life threatening injuries. The squad car was extensively damaged. The accident is currently under investigation.

Rollover Accident in Wisconsin Rapids

On Feb. 9, a rollover accident in Wisconsin Rapids killed one.

The pick up truck in the accident lost control on a snow roadway and rolled over. For nearly and hour and a half, the driver of the rolled over car was trapped inside.  The jaws of life were used to get him out and he was taken to the hospital. The man suffered a head injury.

Former Boston Legal Actor Dies in Car Crash

A former Boston Legal actor, Justin Mentell, died in a car accident on Feb. 1, in Wisconsin.

A motorist call the police after finding the Jeep, the motorist said it looked like it had been there for a while. The Jeep had fallen down an embankment near Highway 39. Mentell was pronounced dead on the scene. Investigators are searching for the cause of the accident. He was 27-years-old.
