Number of car accidents increases on Tax Day

Posted on Thursday, April 19th, 2012 at 3:46 pm

A new study was released this year about the number of fatal traffic fatalities that occur each year on Tax Day.

After researchers analyzed car accident data over the past 30 years, they found that the number of fatal car crashes that occur on Tax Day tend to be 6 percent higher than any other day in the month.

The number of accidents that occur on this day over the past 30 years has been 6,783 and when divided over that time period it is nearly 226 each Tax Day. Researchers think that this increase in accidents may be because drivers are racing to get the post office or under a large amount of stress from the deadline.
