The Manitowoc Police Department announced that they have received a $2,000 grant from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation Bureau Transportation Safety, to help approve pedestrian safety in the area.

According to a report from the department, the funds will be used to pay officers to work overtime and help patrol the streets from May to September. As the weather gets warmer, more people get outside to enjoy the weather.

Also, bright green “pedestrian crossing” signs have been placed in the downtown area. The pedestrian has the right of way at a marked or unmarked crosswalk at an uncontrolled intersection. A ticket for breaking this law is $100, according to the report. The department is striving to educate the community but will enforce the laws and write tickets if needed.
